Coast Guard seraching for missing San Ramon boater
U.S. Coast Guard crews are searching this morning for a San Ramon boater who did not return after leaving from Pillar Point Harbor on Wednesday. The Coast Guard received a call on Thursday night from the son of Shau Tsu Wong, a 64-year-old San Ramon man who departed from the harbor near Half Moon Bay. (Friday, 4:32 PM)
Former CNET cop to appear on 'Dr. Phil' show
Norman Wielsch, the former commander of a Contra Costa County drug squad indicted in the CNET scandal, will appear on "Dr. Phil" to reach out to other law enforcement officers who may be under stress and encourage them to seek psychological help. (Friday, 10:21 AM)
Support our troops: drink beer
San Ramon's newest brewery is partnering with a support group for those who have lost a family member while serving in the armed forces -- and the brewery hasn't even opened yet. Schubros Brewery announced it would participate in fundraising activities for the East Bay Blue Star Moms and the Northern California Chapter of Gold Star Moms. (Friday, 10:46 AM)
Sniffing out trouble
Dogs may be man's best friend, but for some Tri-Valley students, in the not-too-distant future, they may be anything but. The Pleasanton school board has approved a plan to allow drug detection dogs to do scent searches of student and teacher parking lots and gym lockers, although the board held off giving final approval until it finalizes its policy to address the issue. Community Center will re-open Friday
The San Ramon community center at Central Park and park restrooms will reopen on Feb. 3 after a water main break shut down the building on Monday afternoon. Water service has been restored to the facility, though finishing work will continue on-site through early next week. (Thursday, 6:14 PM)
Examining the state of Mudd's
In her latest blog, San Ramon Observer Roz Rogoff discusses her recent walk through the now defunct Mudd's Restaurant. The building, which needs to have improved disabled access and must be rid of rats, may be demolished and rebuilt as a new restaurant. (Thursday, 9:41 PM)

Alamo postal worker gets federal prison
A former Alamo Post Office employee was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison and ordered to repay nearly $40,000 after being convicted by a jury last October. Hayward resident Emmanuel Odion Esezobor, 51, received was convicted of stealing public money and passing counterfeit bills. (Wednesday, 8:43 PM)
