View 'Turkey in Focus'

San Ramon resident and retired banker Nido Paras loves to see the world through a different lens.

"I love to travel and I like the excitement and seeing foreign countries and people and culture," he said. "I've been taking pictures since I was in my teens and I have always combined it with my traveling."

Paras' most recent trip, a 13-day tour of Turkey in October, had the 68-year-old and his wife in 18 cities, including "vibrant and exotic Istanbul, the timeless region of Cappadocia" and a day of sailing around the Mediterranean. The resulting vivacious and colorful photos make up "Turkey in Focus," a tribute to the country's people, landscape and ancient sites.

"Everywhere I met wonderful people descended from this long and complex history and the modern nation….at the crossroads of Europe and Asia," who has said that he was drawn to Turkey because he wanted to see the connection between modern and ancient worlds.

"Turkey in Focus" will be on display at the Lindsay Dirkx Brown Gallery inside the San Ramon Community Center (12501 Alcosta Blvd.) through April 28. An artist's reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, April 9 from 4 - 6 p.m. Paras will be on hand to answer questions about his photographs and travels.
