Former Cal High teacher, Ironman dies unexpectedly

 | Former California High School robotics teacher John Korzick passed away unexpectedly on April 1. He was 65.
Born in Connecticut, the Danville resident competed in seven Ironman Triathlons and could often be found running along the Iron Horse Trail with friends.
Korzick taught at Cal High for six years, during which time he created the Engineering and Design Academy, coached freshman football and men's lacrosse. In 2010, Korzick was honored as SRVUSD teacher of the year and retired from the district the following year. He planned to teach a graduate-level course at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China in September of this year.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, three sons-in-law and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at 1 p.m. at Wilson Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley (825 Hartz Way, Danville).

You were one of the high school teachers that I respected the most, because you helped me when I needed that extra help. I remember you'd pull me aside to give me a quick tutor session because you wanted to, and I didn't even have to ask. I would see you putting in effort with the students that would be called to the office everyday. In my eyes that made you stand out from all of the other teachers because I would see those exact teachers refuse to give the time of day to those students who needed that guidance. For all that you've done, I want to show my respect and gratitude because you were one of the people who pushed me to be who I am and where I am today, and I'm only going to keep pushing forward. I guess that's where you're football coaching helped me with my academics. I'll see you when I get There. Rest in Paradise.
