Barack Obama may have won the popular vote, but if Danville voters had their way, a Republican would be president, voting documents show.

Mitt Romney took in 9,011 votes in the town of Danville, compared to 8,843 for Obama. It was the only locality in Contra Costa County that favored the former Massachusetts governor. Danville has 12,007 registered Republicans and 9,631 registered Democrats, according to the Contra Costa Elections Office.

Elizabeth Emken, the Republican challenger to longtime Senator Dianne Feinstein also fared well in Danville, drawing 8,275 votes; Feinstein received 9,608 votes. While Emken didn't carry Danville, the town was the only locality in Contra Costa that came close. Emken is a Danville resident.

San Ramon voters were clearly in favor of the incumbents in both the presidential and senatorial elections. The city has 14,037 registered Democrats. Both San Ramon and Danville have less than 1,000 residents identifying as Independents.

Obama pulled in 12,683 votes while Romney drew 8,396. Feinstein drew even more votes in San Ramon than the president, taking in 13,009, while Emken received 7,954 votes.
