Local man killed in plane crash

Danville resident Russell Hackler, 68, was killed in a plane crash on Friday, Nov. 23 near Calaveras County-Maury Rasmussen Field Airport on the eastern side of Highway 49. The veterinarian was flying his homebuilt single-engine Coot A-Amphibian aircraft when it crashed into a hillside around 3:40 p.m.

Dr. Hackler was the vet for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Canine Unit. We are going to miss him something awful and send our condolences to his family. Thanks for everything Doc.

Such a loss of a worthy life still going strong and doing what he obviously loved...I lost someone like that a few years ago, much younger, and much the same philosophy on living life to the fullest. I admire such people greatly who pursue their dreams and leave a "mark" in this world...Sounds like he did also.
