The Dublin San Ramon Services District is proposing to increase sewer rates in Dublin and South San Ramon, and the "temporary" infrastructure charge added to water bills could be increased by as much as 66 percent. This is to compensate for new water connection fees that dried up with the housing slow down.

Swell. Just one more increase to heap on the top already established in the past two years here in San Ramon. How I love paying for new development! <not> -When in fact? Too much has been allowed too fast in the Doughtery valley increasing our costs substantially in recent years. Worthy increases of 2 to 8% are understandable - 66%? Just once again, an example of poor fiscal planning and vision in being able to manage a large budget (HOW do these people KEEP their jobs?????)
Waste Mgmt. fees just went up - Comcast is giving us an increase as of August 1st...and the list keeps growing in recent months.
-ANOTHER big reason to oppose a SRVSD parcel tax on the upcoming ballot!

Given the current economic woes and the fact that DSRSD offers no assistance program to its senior or low-income customers, this is NOT the time for DSRSD to be raising its already substantial rates. The "temporary" infrastructure charge, which DSRSD plans on imposing for a number of years, should not be increased and should end on a date certain. The ratepayers should not be penalized for DSRSD's poor planning and past extravagances.
I urge DSRSD ratepayers to attend the hearing on July 20.

I'm going to be blatantly political here. I ran for DSRSD in 2004 and one of my top priorities was: Create a "lifeline" fund to subsidize low income seniors and families (copied from my 2004 page in Smart Voter.org). Needless to say I was not elected. The three Directors elected in 2004 are still there.
Voters had another choice to vote for Mohinder Khanna in 2006 and didn't.
These agencies are important. There will be an election for two Directors this year. Voters should weigh the issues and the candidates carefully. Most people don't pay any attention to them until the bills hit.

Customers may submit written protests before or by the end of the public hearing. See the notices of public hearing or the DSRSD web site (DSRSD.com) for details. Unfortunately, DSRSD does not appear to be counting e-mail protests.

Well presenting yourself at one of their meetings; emaiing protests...Frankly? NOT ONE AGENCY I'VE MENTIONED HAS BACKED DOWN ON RATE INCREASES SINCE THIS WHOLE ECONOMIC CATASTROPHE BEGAN...So how does this speak to "we the people" ???? How does this affect their final decision? I would submit: IT DOES NOT. I never thought I'd say it, but these agencies are becoming very socialistic and clearly, none of us are having any impact on their propsed changes, rather, they forge ahead...sad day, truly.

After last night's decision to raise both rates, this is now the third time rates have risen within 13 months. 50% of the ratepayers are needed to protest the rate hikes for it to be stopped. We need residents to be fired up and we certainly need new board members. A reminder filing deadline for board nmember elections is August 6th. Don't just complain become involved.
