Although extremely disappointed that they dropped the show, I am thrilled they did not enact this "insane" idea. I wonder how much we are going to spend to enforce this? Probably as much as the show costs.

Kevin, fireworks weren't legal to begin with.

The only part of the proposed Ordinance I supported was the $5000 penalty for using illegal fireworks in San Ramon. Dave Hudson said that without legalizing the "Safe and Sane" fireworks, the city wouldn't get the penalty money. Whether the $5K goes to the City or the State, it's still a better way to keep illegal fireworks out of our neighborhoods than legalizing more fireworks.

I'm relieved to see the sale of legal fireworks in San Ramon not approved. After being in a Dublin neighborhood during only one 4th of July evening, I recognized this would never be a good idea for San Ramon. To start, due to the use of the fireworks permeating the area, the air was thick with smoke pollution. The amount of aerial fireworks launched (although illegal even in Dublin) far exceeded San Ramon on a typical July 4th, leading me to believe that with the use of the legal fireworks comes the increased use of the illegal ones, the opposite of discouraging their use. The City of Dublin fire trucks were patrolling up and down the streets, monitoring the situation. This would have required increased manpower and funds. Finally, the debris left behind in the streets was also polluting and unsightly. I believe that the residents of San Ramon, even the ones who supported the legal sale, will ultimately be grateful.

I'm glad this ordinance did not come to fruition. A decade ago, neighbors had an "accident" in my sideyard that burned a couple of bushes before we knew it. Very scary. So I don't think it's wise to tempt fate with just anyone setting off their array of fireworks. Let's put this issue to bed.
