San Ramon Farmer's Market opened at 9 a.m. Saturday under beautiful blue skies for its fourth season at Forest Home Farms Historic Park. The market featured more than 40 vendors, including fruit and vegetable vendors, cage-free eggs, sheep and dog demonstrations, face painting, jewelry, candles and Whole Foods, which sponsors the market.

The market was packed. I got there at 11 am and the lot was full. I had to park a block away. Safe-Cat Foundation, which has a booth next to the sheep barn, had three adoptions - two kittens and a sweet older lap cat.
The eggs from this new vendor are very reasonably priced. They are competitive with supermarket eggs, but much better tasting and better for the chickens too.
There seems to be a greater variety of vendors this year. There's a new booth with soaps and salves which I plan to try next week.
One vendor had red, sour cherries for pies. I grew up in New York state where we had cherry trees. My Grandmother, who lived with us, would make pies and strudel, and polichintin (Hungarian crepes) that I still remember. I have not been able to find sour cherries out here before.
Altogether it was a very successful opening and the weather was great!

The place was packed! We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and had to park a block away as well. I thought the market had a variety of different vendors too. You could pick up cherries, strawberries, princess headbands and get your face painted!
I also was able to pick up a free, reusable tote from Whole Foods!
Maybe we'll see you next time!
Thanks!
